The Friends of Walker Tavern will host a volunteer lunch and orientation Saturday, May 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Hewitt House Visitors Center inside Cambridge Junction Historic State Park near Brooklyn, Michigan. The event is free and open to ages 16 and older. Volunteers will be trained in their area of interest, which could include gardening, help with special events or giving tours of the historic site.
“If you love history, have just moved to the Irish Hills, or have lived here all your life and enjoy being outdoors, then being a volunteer at Walker Tavern Historic Site may be just where you belong,” said Maggie Bilby, president of the Friends of Walker Tavern.
Last year the Friends of Walker Tavern contributed more than 2,000 hours of volunteer time toward the operation of Walker Tavern Historic Site.
“There is so much we couldn’t do on the site without the help of our volunteers,” said Walker Tavern site historian Laurie Perkins.
