Hidden Lake Gardens- Keeper of the Co...
Description
Hidden Lake Gardens showcases the fascinating diversity of conifers which is the primary purpose of the Harper Collection of Dwarf and Rare Conifers which is more than just pines and spruces and hemlocks.
They have cones!...woody little fixtures, all members of the Gymnosperm plant group, which literally means “Naked Seed” in reference to their lack of fruit.
These Cones are the coniferous species’ way of producing the next generation of conifers.
The Keeper of Cones walk is open to all who find wonder in our natural world. Come and smell the resin in the air, with HLG propagator Jon Genereaux, for a 2 hour walk into the Harper collection looking closely at different conifer species and their cones as well as bark, textures, needles, shapes, and branching patterns. Cones and conifers are an important part of the ecosystem – come, join the walk, and discover why. Just possibly you will be inspired by this introduction to delve further into the fascinating world of conifers.
PLEASE NOTE: This walk will be mostly on mowed lawn grass with a sloping to hilly terrain – it is not wheelchair, stroller, or wagon friendly. Mostly a full-sun site.
Cost: $12 member / $17 non-member / $5 ages 13-15 (Walk is focused toward adults and may not be appropriate for children age 12 and under).
Limit: 25 Participants. Please call 517-431-2060 to register.
